PHP development for systems your business depends on.
Crumbls helps businesses improve custom PHP applications, connect systems, and plan changes to existing software. Start with the problem the application needs to solve, then choose a practical way forward.
PHP development beyond a framework label
An application does not stop being valuable because it uses older conventions or a framework your current team did not choose. It may contain years of pricing rules, account relationships, reporting logic, or integrations that people rely on every day.
We look at what the system does and how it operates before deciding what to change. Sometimes the right project is a targeted bug fix or API connection. Sometimes it is a sequence of improvements that makes the code easier to maintain without interrupting the business.
Focused improvements to existing PHP applications
- Application investigation: trace a failing workflow, review logs and dependencies, and identify the code involved before changing it.
- Custom features: add behavior that fits the existing application and makes the work easier for its users.
- Integrations and data movement: connect APIs, imports, exports, and reporting with explicit handling for invalid or duplicate data.
- Modernization planning: identify runtime constraints, dependency upgrades, missing tests, and deployment issues in an order the business can manage.
Preserve the rules that already work
Before changing an important workflow, we identify representative examples and expected outcomes. That gives the work something concrete to verify. A successful refactor needs to preserve the behaviors the business still needs, including exceptions that are easy to miss in a quick code review.
If a new application is justified, we plan the data transition, integration boundaries, and release sequence as part of the project. If the current application can keep doing its job, improvements can stay within it. The modernization decision guide describes this approach in more detail.
Project experience: a patient platform
For a patient platform, Crumbls handled the DevOps and PHP work, including an encryption system for personally identifiable information. The work combined application development with the infrastructure needed to operate it.
Application code and deployment need to work together. This engagement included both, with attention to how sensitive information was handled inside the platform. The project is described anonymously to protect the client and its users.
Questions before we start
Does the application need to be Laravel?
No. PHP work can involve a custom codebase, a WordPress integration, or an application with its own conventions. We review the stack and scope before confirming fit. See our WordPress development and Laravel development pages for those specific services.
Can you upgrade an older PHP application?
We can assess the upgrade path. The answer depends on the runtime, libraries, hosting, and behavior that must be preserved. We establish the blockers and verification plan before promising a version change or delivery date.
What should I bring to the first conversation?
Describe the problem, who encounters it, and what a successful outcome would look like. Mention the PHP version and framework if you know them; that is useful context, not a prerequisite. For a troubled application, the Application Rescue Review explains a structured first step.
Start with the work your business needs to do.
Understand the project
Bring an example of the problem, the system you use today, and what needs to work differently. For existing applications, we review the code and operating environment before recommending changes.
Agree on a useful first step
We define the scope, dependencies, and acceptance criteria before estimating the work. That might mean one integration, a working application feature, or a review of the system you already have.
Build and verify
You work directly with the developer. We check the agreed workflows, plan deployment, and explain what changed so the application can keep improving after delivery.
